Keshet leadership program for high school students

The Keshet Leadership program is made up of a series of some 20 seminars spanning three years of activity for select groups of high school students with leadership potential from all over the country. The seminars are held on weekends and during vacations every six weeks on average, each time in another part of the country.

The seminars deal with three main focal points: knowledge of Israel’s history and geography, Israeli society, and deepening the participants’ Jewish, humanistic and Zionist identity. The program’s participants are exposed to the landscapes and sites of the Land of Israel, to the forgotten stories the Jewish people in their land in ancient and in modern times. They are given the opportunity to meet dozens of fascinating lecturers and opinion leaders in Israeli society today – social entrepreneurs, leaders and well-known intellectuals – and are exposed to a virtual treasure trove of Jewish literature, such as the Musar literature, legends of the Sages, the weekly Torah portion and humanistic Hebrew writings, such as those of Ahad Ha’am, Bialik, Herzl, Berdichevsky and others.

Graduates of the program develop a perceptive and inquisitive personality, laying the foundation for how they see the world and acquiring unforgettable experiences that shape their identity. In addition, the program paves the way for these young people to become part of the world of pre-military Mechina studies and engage in a year of voluntary community service. The program also increases their chances of finding a place in meaningful roles in their military service and influential leadership roles in civilian life.

The Ministry of Education is currently working on a government policy that will allow other organizations to establish programs in the Keshet format with government support.
