OUR STORY

Shalom,

My name is Amichai Chikli and I am the Founder and CEO of Tavor these past nine years.

During my studies in the context of my military service, several partners and I set up a social initiative for youth in Herzliya before their military service. This experience opened a window for me into the world of education and influence on the younger generation. The kids we worked with were the best  – la crème de la crème – clever, talented and deeply ethical; but when it came to Zionism, Judaism and knowledge about Israel, it was clear they were lacking. The main motivation driving these teens stemmed from their desire for personal achievement, which although important in and of itself, was clearly not enough. This is where the seeds were sown for the founding of the Tavor Leadership Academy, which began with the Mechina, or pre-military leadership program.

The idea was to enable outstanding young people, Israel’s leadership reserve, to engage in a series of identity-shaping experiences that would help them formulate a sense of mission – drawing not only on personal ambition, but also on deep cultural roots and heritage, and a sense of destiny and responsibility as those continuing the Zionist enterprise. Eight years since its challenging birth in Upper Nazareth, Tavor is one of Israel’s leading Mechina programs, with 900 applicants contending for 60 spots this year alone.

The essential vision of all Tavor’s programs is to train outstanding youth to become national and social leaders who combine ambition and exceptional personal capabilities with a sense of responsibility and national mission.
